How to use stories to keep the audience you already have

How to use stories to keep the audience you already have

The feed brings new people. Stories keep the ones who already arrived. Different jobs, different content.

Who sees your stories

Mostly people who already interact with you. So stories are not the place to explain the basics — they are the place to go deeper, show routine and talk.

Sequence structure

A sequence of three to five screens works better than fifteen loose ones:

  1. Opening: one line giving context.
  2. Development: two or three frames with the content.
  3. Closing: an interaction sticker or a call to action.

Stickers that get responses

  • Two-option poll: the highest response rate, because it takes one tap.
  • Slider: good for measuring opinion.
  • Question box: generates topics and DM conversations.
  • Quiz: works well for educational content.

A link sticker is only worth it when there is a clear reason to leave the app.

Frequency

Three to ten screens a day is the comfortable range. Far above that increases exits; far below makes the profile disappear from the story queue.

A seen story is a reminder. A profile that vanishes from the story sequence vanishes from the audience's mind.

The first story of the day

It is the most viewed. Put what matters most there. The last one usually has half the audience of the first.

Replying is what builds the relationship

Every poll or question response opens a DM conversation. Answering those messages is the activity that most turns followers into customers.

Highlights

Important stories should become highlights. They keep working for months for people visiting the profile for the first time.

Summary

Short sequences, one interaction sticker per sequence, the most important thing in the first story and replies to whoever interacts. Stories do not bring new audiences — they keep the existing one from leaving.
